This casual and functional bayong is made by the fishermen's wives of Dinagat Islands. The Dinagat Islands are a group of islands constituting a province in the Caraga region in the Philippines. How this name came about was told many times that there was a stranger who visited the island who had an interest in fishing. It prompted him to inquire where the locals fish, and the local replied and pointed to a place saying dinhi niini na dagat (here from this bountiful waters). Since then, the place was called "Dinagat".
